Copyright Assistance

Courseware:
Copyright clearance is required by law for all photocopied material in courseware. The College has a license with Access Copyright for clearing most material.

It is therefore necessary to fill out a Access Copyright Clearance Request Form (available in print from the employee mailroom, or here in Excel format) each time you have the material duplicated. This form should be submitted to the Printshop along with your Courseware Production Requistion Form available in MyLangara under the Employees Tabs.

Be aware that because Access Copyright does not cover all publishers or copyright owners, the Library may have to request special permission for certain materials. This may require additonal processing time.

For more information, contact Briana Fraser (local 5383), or refer to the Langara College Library Copyright Guide for more detailed information.

Videos, Audiovisuals and Web Materials:
The law also requires that public performance rights be secured in advance of showing any video to a class or group. For videos obtained by the library or by a department in consultation with the media librarian, these rights have been confirmed at the time of purchase or loan. Most feature films are covered by an institutional public performance license. Call Helena Nest (local 5458) to confirm that a feature film you would like to use is included. Videos obtained under any other circumstances can be shown only after rights have been negotiated on behalf of the College. It is essential that you speak with Susan Weber (local 5533) well before the date on which you hope to be permitted to show such a video.

Copyright clearance is mandatory for the duplication or transfer of sound recordings, films, videos, and software. Permission is also required to post, download and/or distribute Web material or graphics. Call Niina Mitter (local 5290) for assistance in getting clearance for these purposes.
